Come and discover West Virginia’s rich, unique history, its people, as well as the culture and beauty of the mountain state at the Heritage Towers Museum & Culture Center. Heritage Towers is West Virginia’s foremost Black Culture & African Heritage facility. Located in downtown Charleston at 612 Virginia Street East, the Towers run exhibits that reflect historical perspectives of African American history in the state. The collection of galleries paints the picture of African American heritage. The museum exhibits takes you through a timeline originating from the Kingdoms of Africa, all the way to the Appalachian coal country of West Virginia, as well as the courageous travels along the Underground Railroad trails. Other exhibits include the Civil Rights exhibit, West African Culture Exhibit, and the West Virginia Black Coal Miner Exhibit. These exhibits are vital components of the culture of West Virginia providing enlightenment for all ages.
The Heritage Towers Museum & Culture Center is just a short 5-10 minute interstate drive away from the Wingate by Wyndham, and local area shuttle rides are available at request.
