Since 1913, Saint Francis Hospital has provided compassionate, faith-based healthcare in the Kanawha Valley. Located right off of Interstates 64/77/79 in Charleston, Saint Francis Hospital provides central, convenient, and community-oriented health care. They are committed to putting their patients first, as patient safety and quality of care is of vital concern for all healthcare workers. The hospital has been around for almost a century since it was founded in the Old Laidley Home at 333 Laidley Street purchased by Bishop Patrick J. Donahue, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling and converted to a 25 bed hospital. It was initially run by the Sisters of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration from Williamsville, New York.
Saint Francis continued to give the best medical care around, and in 2007 when the Thomas Health System, Inc. purchased Saint Francis Hospital to combine with the other local Thomas Memorial Hospital it culminated to bring innovative and cost-effective health care to the Kanawha Valley. Each hospital is governed by its own board of trustees. An additional board of trustees, made up of members of both hospital boards, oversees Thomas Health System, Inc. The main focus, within the Thomas Health System, is to maintain the highest standard of service, while continuing the missions of both hospitals of being the first choice for those in need of healthcare. The partnership between Thomas Memorial Hospital and Saint Francis Hospital means that together, the two can provide advanced technology to a larger community, with access to the highest quality of physicians, nurses and support staff in the Kanawha Valley.
