WV State Museum

Experience first-hand what it was like to be a West Virginian during pivotal moments in the state’s history down at the West Virginia State Museum at the Culture Center. The newly renovated and very highly rated museum will lead you on a path of knowledge that highlights all that West Virginia has endured. Learn about ancient fossils and the prehistoric people of the area, before beginning your time lapse to see the first white settlers of the region. The state’s involvement in the Civil War and the drawn-out process of receiving statehood is told through a series of remarkable, interactive exhibits. Down at the museum you will find something the whole family can enjoy from the hands-on displays, to the tremendous art gallery, or the lovely gift shop. Not to mention that the widely acclaimed, self-guided tour of information is absolutely free to the public.

The Wingate by Wyndham sits just off the interstate and is only a 5-10 minute drive from the Capitol Complex which houses The Culture Center and the State Museum, and local area shuttle service is available upon request. Museum hours run 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Tuesday through Saturday, and 12 noon to 5 P.M. on Sunday. Final entries are at 4:15. If you have any further questions on the West Virginia State Museum, or need any assistance in any way, do not hesitate to ask any of our skilled employees down at the front desk.
