Charleston is home to the state’s only professional sports team, the West Virginia Power. A Single-A Minor League team, the Power are now the farm team of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Formerly affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Power has given many baseball Major-Leaguers such as Matt LaPorta, Alcides Escobar, and 2011 National League MVP Ryan Braun their start to the competitive baseball world. Along with seeing the future stars of tomorrow, Appalachian Power Park is known for constantly running promotions to satisfy fans of all ages. Many fans enjoy Family Buck Night, which consists of a $1 General Admission ticket, as well as $1 Hot Dogs, Soda and Popcorn. Pull out the inner-kid in you or accompany the kids to the Family Fun Zone. One ticket allows one to jump in the amazing Bounce House, test their skills in the obstacle course, or climb up and down the giant slide located outside the center-field wall. If that’s not enough, children are encouraged to come down on the field and Run the Bases every Sunday after a Power home game. This is just won of the many reasons why one should come out and root on the Power during your stay here in Charleston.
