The Charleston Civic Center is the largest event venue in the city and one of the largest in the state. Compromised of the Little Theatre, the Charleston Convention Center and the Coliseum, the Civic Center hosts many athletic events, performances, conventions and other events throughout the year. Since the completion of the Civic Center in 1959, the venue has undergone several renovations and expansions to meet the growing needs of the city and the businesses that hold events there.
Most recently, a new basketball court was added to the Civic Center for the 2011-2012 seasons. This court hosts the WVSSAC Boys’ and Girls’ State Basketball Tournaments, the annual interstate rivalry basketball game between West Virginia and Marshall and several other athletic competitions throughout the year. The Monster Truck Jam and the Rough and Rowdy Brawl are two other very popular and highly attended events that take place at the Civic Center, typically during the beginning of each year.
The Little Theatre is home to the performances put on by the Charleston Light Opera Guild, and many local high schools hold graduation ceremonies in the theatre as well. Several large annual conventions and events are held in the Charleston Convention Center including the Charleston Wedding Expo, the International Auto Show and Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus.
The Wingate by Wyndam is a short 7-8 minute drive or two interstate exits away from the Charleston Civic Center. If you opt out of our complimentary shuttle service, drivers will be able to find plenty of available parking in the Civic Center Parking Garage, the Town Center Parking Garage or one of the many metered parking lots nearby. Don’t forget to ask the front desk for dining recommendations in the area before or after the event!
