Starting early 2026, these eagle-eyed cameras will be keeping a close watch on four key locations in Preston, Lancaster, and Accrington. Ignore those 'No Entry' signs or attempt a forbidden turn, and you'll be hit with a £70 fine, slashed to £35 if you pay up within three weeks. And this is the part most people miss... These cameras have actually been installed for three years, but their activation was delayed. The council assures us it was all about ensuring taxpayers got their money's worth.
Let's break down where these cameras will be lurking:
Preston, Charnley Street: No sneaking onto Corporation Street near the Fishergate car park entrance.
Preston, Ringway/Bow Lane: Westbound traffic, forget about turning right into Marsh Lane, and U-turns are a no-go in both directions.
Morecambe Road junction, Lancaster: No right turns out of Aldi onto the main road.
Hyndburn Road, Accrington: Viaduct Retail Park? You'll have to find another route - no right turns from the main road.
The council is adamant these cameras are for our own good, improving safety and traffic flow, especially in areas where residents have voiced concerns.
